Features Released for Winter 2011
What’s New for MyAccountingLab®, MyEconLab®, MyFinanceLab®, and MyOMLab®
- Item Analysis for Combined Courses
- Item Analysis Exports are now available for course groups from both the Quick Exports and Advanced Exports pages. If a coordinator-instructor exports Item Analysis for a course group, he/she can get a summary of student performance across all course sections in the course group as well as student scoring details for each student. Question metrics (difficulty, median time, correct on first try) are also included in Advanced Exports.
- Stop and Resume Tests/Quizzes
- Instructors can choose to allow students to stop taking a test or quiz and return at a later time to complete it. If they select this setting, the test/quiz is restricted so that students can see only one question at a time and cannot change previously answered questions or look ahead. Students must answer a question completely before they can move on. Students returning to a timed test will have only the remaining time to complete the test; the clock does not “start over.”

Please do not schedule any tests or other assignments during the release. MyEconLab courses will be temporarily unavailable during the upgrade.
Notify Lab Administrators
Starting with this release, MyEconLab will require the use of the Adobe Flash Player version 10.1 or later. (Earlier versions of Flash will no longer be supported.) If you are teaching with MyEconLab for the first time, please refer your computer lab administrators to the installation instructions on the Pearson Player Update page.
Also, for the MyEconLab instructors who want to take advantage of the Pearson LockDown Browser (powered by Respondus) in their course, please be sure your computer lab administrator downloads and installs the software for this enhanced security feature on the Pearson Player Update page.
New Features
Security Enhancements for Testing
Instructors will be able to use the Pearson LockDown Browser, powered by Respondus, so that students taking tests in MyFinanceLab will not be able to access their desktop or any external website.
Pearson eText Integration
Courses that have published in 2011 will have full eText integration with increased ease of use and enhanced features, such as the ability for instructors to publish and share their annotations and highlights with students in their courses.
Assign Testbank Questions from Other Books
Instructors will be able to assign testbank questions from other books. This will increase the number of testbank questions available for homework and exams and give instructors more variety when choosing questions to assign.
Preview Image of Available Questions
While creating assignments, instructors will see a "thumbnail" image of each question as they move their cursor over the question ID or name. The question objective is shown at the top of each thumbnail image. This will allow instructors to more easily see questions while assigning homework.
Features Released for Winter 2010 / 11
On December 27, 2010, MyEconLab was updated with all new features. Read below to learn about these features and the release details. As always, Pearson's MyEconLab is the place to go for easy-to-use features that give students and instructors more course options, flexibility, and success!
New Features
AACSB Standards and Economics Learning Outcome Statements
Since January 2011, Instructors have been able to structure their MyEconLab course assignments around, and run reporting in two ways: based on AACSB standards and course specific learning outcome statements for principles of economics. This enhanced reporting exists for introductory courses only, for textbook editions published after January 2011.
EXPERIMENTS in MyEconLab
Beginning in January 2011, the suite of Experiments in MyEconLab will expand to include multiplayer versions of our popular Price Ceilings and Floors and Taxes experiments. As before, both multiplayer and single-player experiments are assignable and include pre and post-questions for assignment as well. Later in 2011, MyEconLab will add additional micro and macro experiments, including a Public Goods experiment, to give students and professors even more opportunities to actively learn and master important economic concepts.
Pearson eText Full Integration
Courses publishing in early 2011 will start using the Pearson eText for the first time. This new platform allows students and instructors to annotate and highlight, and offers other advanced eText features as well. A full integration by Spring 2011 will allow instructors to publish and share their annotations and highlights with students in each of their courses. Later in 2011, students will be able to download their eText to certain mobile devices like the iPhone. Stay tuned for future eText updates and information.
Features Released for Summer 2010
On June 27th 2010, MyEconLab was updated with the new features that you have been asking for! Read below to learn about the new features and the release details. This new release is filled with easy-to-use features that give students more "I Get It" moments, while providing you more options and flexibility for your course!
New Features
Experiments in MyEconLab
Most courses in MyEconLab now contain a Market Experiment, and will soon contain the Market Experiment with Price Ceilings and Price Floors, and the Market Experiment with Taxes. Beginning mid-July, instructors can assign these in one of two ways: for students to play against the class, or for students to play on their own. A new Experiment Manager button will enable instructors to easily assign these versions of the experiment along with pre and post questions. Additional experiments will be available in the fall.
Graphical “Dashboard” Display of Student Performance
A new home page – based on the current Announcements page – uses simple bar charts and other visual motivators to let students know their current status in the course, how much work they still need to complete, and what their upcoming assignments are and when they are due. An improved and detailed calendar, to which instructors can add entries, is displayed prominently on this page.
New Features - Winter 2010
New Features
Ability to Adjust Number of Tries within Questions
Instructors can now choose the number of times students can work each answer field within a question, changing the default of three tries to any number between 1 and 99. They do this either at the question level from the Preview & Add or Remove window or at the assignment level from View Question Details.
Homework Affects Mastery in Study Plan
Instructors now have the option to allow Homework to affect the Study Plan. In addition, they can control which assignment types affect the Study Plan and determine mastery. On the Mastery Options page in the Study Plan Manager, they can include Homework, exclude Sample Tests or Quizzes, and specify the percentage score needed for mastery in each assignment type.
New Features - Summer 2009
Assignable Media Learning Aids
Media learning aids such as videos, animations, or ebook pages will be assignable as homework, quizzes, or tests. These media assignments can be selected as prerequisites to other assignments.
Customizable Study Plan
Instructors can customize the Study Plan by specifying the objectives and questions that will appear for students to work on. They also can set the definition for mastery (percentage level). Students who successfully complete "Needs Study" questions will see a new icon that reminds them to retest to prove their mastery.
New Features - Winter 2009
Number of Attempts for Homework Questions
Instructors will be able to specify the number of times each homework question on an assignment can be attempted, from 1 to the current default of unlimited. Students are told of the number of attempts they have on the Homework Overview. This option lets instructors balance students’ ability to practice with similar exercises while preserving the integrity of the assignment.
Additional Options for Preview & Add, Preview & Remove
As they preview questions while creating homework assignments, instructors will see the entire question worked out so they’ll know how many parts the question has. They can also switch from this default view to “Work Problem as Student,” where a “Show Answer” button allows them to see the correct answers. A “Reload” button regenerates the values of the question being previewed. (Show Answer and Reload are currently available in Preview mode for tests/quizzes.)
New Features - Summer 2008
MyEconLab® Player v2!
The wait is over. The new Flash-based, platform- and browser-independent MyEconLab® Player will be released this July! In addition to Internet Explorer, the Player will support Firefox on Windows (XP and Vista ) and Safari and Firefox on the Macintosh. The following features are available only for courses using MyEconLab® Player v2.
Simplified Browser Check
In courses using the MyEconLab® Player v2, the Installation Wizard will be replaced by a simple browser check. The Player v2 requires only the latest version of the Adobe Flash Player. The system will make sure a user's computer has the proper version of the Flash Player when a course is created, when a student enrolls in a MyEconLab® course, and the first time a student clicks a MyEconLab® link from within a MyEconLab® in CourseCompass course. If not, users will be prompted to download the Flash Player from the Adobe web site.
